Tom Lehrer – Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I’ve talked a lot recently about my beloved Phil Ochs, and how modern his 1960s protest songs feel. Here’s another, though very different, protest singer whose sly 60s ethos still pricks holes in the egos of 2005-6’s residents; Tom Lehrer.

** BUMPITY BUMP **

I see it’s been almost a year since I last posted about Tom Lehrer – his A Christmas Carol tends to match my rather dark thoughts on the holiday season. I add to this post as a new quote has been added to his Wikipedia entry, one which I quite like. He’s a tough old coot yet, is Tom Lehrer:

I’m not tempted to write a song about George W. Bush. I couldn’t figure out what sort of song I would write. That’s the problem: I don’t want to satirise George Bush and his puppeteers, I want to vaporise them.
