A call-out to all you Church-History trivia buffs out there: I’ve been wracking my brain trying to remember the name of a man talked about by one of my history profs, and can’t come up with it. For some reason “Thomas” sticks in my mind, but it wasn’t Kempis, Becket or More. If I remember it correctly, the personage in question was started on the path to martyrdom in a blocked-in cave, but when the cave was unblocked several weeks later, his body was found with self-inflicted gnaw-marks all over the arms. He was denied sainthood because his actions show he had not gone willingly into death. Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?
