Sam the Eagle – Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I spent a good part of the weekend revisiting The Muppet Show, and being reminded of just how excellent a character is the repressed, self-important Sam the Eagle.

On the show, Sam acts as a censor and speaks as if unhip (reminiscent of those who identified themselves with patriotism in the 1970s). He often gives self-important lectures in which he complains about some liberal idea only to find himself forced to stop in embarrassment.
