Mr Something Something

This morning I had a flashback to a summer nearly 10 years ago, when I used to exit the Eaton Centre’s Queen side specifically to hear the group of young Swedish buskers that would play just outside the doors. They were fantastic, and the best of the lot was their gangly hippie singer, who looked about 14 and already had an Eddie Vedder-ish power-growl. Armchair stalker that I am, I Googled Johan’s name, to see what became of him. Turns out he’s still in Canada, fronting an Afro-jazz group called Mr. Something Something. Unfortunately, the music isn’t to my taste – due in large part to the restraints jazz puts on his fabulous voice – but I thumb it up anyway as a proxy to his busking days. The band has generously provided all its tracks as a free download for anyone who might like to test drive the music. My thumb is also applied so that the fusion jazz fans in the audience might notice them – as fusion jazz goes, these guys sound pretty good…
