The artist’s statement is as blah-blah-blah pretentious as you’d expect for objets like this, but Dale Chihuly’s pieces grab me nonetheless. There’s no artistic merit or resonance here – these are pure, unadulterated Shiny Things. But what a glorious example of the genre! With the beautiful luminescent colours and soft shapes, they arouse thoughts of deep sea creatures. It’s a shame they sell for tens of thousands of dollars – I think their ideal installation is in a fishtank…
