Israel keeps up pressure

Israel vowed yesterday to keep up its military offensive against Hezbollah, as one of the country’s senior generals said the air strike that killed four unarmed peacekeepers, including Canadian Major Paeta Hess-von Kruedener, at a United Nations post on Tuesday was deliberate but accidental.

If nothing else comes out of the current crisis in Lebanon (though you should probably expect heightened tensions in the Middle East and looming Muslim retaliation across the globe) at least it adds a wry new surrealist phrase to the lexicon: Deliberate but accidental. Possible test applications include the aforementioned minimum wage bill brought forth to be slaughtered (deliberate but accidental!) or Janet Jackson wardrobe malfunctions (deliberate but accidental!) See? An instant classic!
