Boing Boing: If the liquid could be explosive, why are you dumping it in a crowd?

I lost a day yesterday to some kind of bug, so the alert readers of BoingBoing beat me to this headscratcher: If the panic at the airports yesterday had people forced to abandon all their possessions (Cell phones? iPods? Lipgloss?!) for fear they contained explosives, why were they all just dumped in the trash? These are public places with extra-large sized crowds – who’s to say the suspects wouldn’t just set off their bombs there? Or is every Homeland Security employee now the proud owner of a castoff iPod? Are they going to be funding future terror alerts through the warehouse sale of all these tossed items? Once again, the media seems to be following the will of the administration’s terrorists and ignoring this massive headscratcher of an oversight.
