“News reports” of Dubya’s schedule for the Katrina anniversary had me mulling over snark along the lines of “President vows to act promptly in wake of disaster… anniversary.” But as usual, reality is even more head-slap-inducing than snarkiness:

President Bush said Monday the huge job of rebuilding from Hurricane Katrina was just beginning a year after the massive storm but expressed hope that the $110 billion of help sent from Washington would be enough.

Trying to erase the black mark left on his presidency by the administration’s sluggish response to Katrina, Bush returned to the first scene he saw a year ago of the storm’s devastation.

Snark is necessary: Wasn’t his first sight of the devastation Trent Lott’s famous porch? And how much do want to bet the rebuilding on that is long done?
