A terrific account of Confederate General A.P. Hill’s romantic misadventures. Hill was what Shelby Foote termed “the fightingest” of Lee’s corps commanders, but the excerpts from his letters here provided show a man of enormous sensitivity and good humour. I’ve long had an affection for Hill without having read too much about him, so this site is a joy. Doubly so, since it was written by a Civil War Buff, like myself, with two X chromosomes. I always assumed I was, to borrow a phrase, the only gay in that particular village. Isn’t the Internet great? 🙂
