…It is not necessary for your socks to be freshly cleaned, as I would prefer that you take them spontaneously off your feet right now, rather than deliberate over which socks you might want to contribute.
Perhaps you are reading this without knowing that you have given me any socks. In that case I may have already taken your socks without permission and left this book as a token gesture. Was this book clipped to the clothesline in your backyard? Taped to the dryer at the laundromat? Found tucked in the shoes you left on the beach while swimming?
Notice something missing? like all of your socks? and all of the other socks nearby? Don’t bother looking around for them. I have them now, and will not be able to return any socks at any time in the future.
