“The United States is deeply saddened by the injuries and loss of life in Gaza today,” Bush said in a statement. “We have seen the Israeli government’s apology and understand an investigation has begun.”

I’m confused – and I mean this sincerely – as to why the Israeli bombing of Gaza merits a chastisement from Bush, whereas he was happy to provide munitions for their bombing of Lebanon. I doubt the Congressional makeover would have results this soon. Can anyone explain to me the volte-face in US policy towards bombing civilians?
