Faux pas – Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_faux_pas

A fun list of international customs and tips on how to avoid societal faux-pas. Interesting to see how many superstitions are still observed, as well as noting how easy it can be to do something terribly offensive in one part of the world, while maintaining etiquette in another. As usual, I got a tremendous kick out of reading (and recognising, and reliving) all of the Canadian ones – working in close concert with Texans for 7 years has made me aware of many differences in etiquette. Since our late Liberal government made such an effort to anti-America up our country (Gay marriage! Pot decriminalisation! Election tallies that go smoothly!) it’s less necessary to define what it means to be a Canadian, but it’s fun to remember that we shared a national mindset even before the theocrats in the US made it obvious.
