Nearly all air travelers entering the U.S. will be required to show passports beginning Jan. 23, including returning Americans and people from Canada and other nations in the Western Hemisphere.

Some of my fellow countrymen may be miffed by this announcement, but in truth we were lucky to have gotten away with it for so long. And what with the American Homeland Security crackdowns since 2001, it’s amazing that they didn’t start demanding this years ago. Especially when you consider that our multiculturalism tends to result in a lot of brown people (a.k.a. potential security risks – not to mention more than a few Russian spies) travelling under a Maple-leaved passport.
