Another Lebanese political assassination, another empty political remark from George W. Bush:
Bush said the United States backed Lebanese efforts to “defend their democracy against attempts by Syria, Iran and allies to foment instability and violence in that important country.”
I like how he lists those countries against whom Lebanon can self-defend. The subtext being that they can just roll over if Israel comes a-knockin’; last time that happened he rush-shipped a bunch of guided missiles to Israel. But then, Dubya has long shown a tenuous grasp on the concept of “defending democracy.”
