Record $622 Billion Budget Requested for the Pentagon – New York Times

The Bush administration is seeking a record military budget of $622 billion for the 2008 fiscal year, Pentagon officials have said. The sum includes more than $140 billion for war-related costs.

Stomach-turning numbers from the Pentagon. I’m getting heartily sick of seeing numbers in the billions being thrown away on wars and more military toys. Think of the changes spreading those $600 BILLION dollars around the Middle East (in the form of schools, power stations, hospitals, etc.) could bring. Or even what an enormous difference it could make to the schools, power stations and hospitals in the country whose taxpayers are footing this bill. There are very few things in this world that wouldn’t make for a better choice in spending that obscene amount of money.
