Another article bemoaning the TV writer’s strike, albeit this one at least tries to frame it in a social-and-industry-trend kind of way:

“It’s not surprising that you’re not seeing news filling the gap caused by the writers’ strike,” said Robert Lichter, president of the Center for Media and Public Affairs. “More and more, the networks are only about whatever sells. They used to genuflect in the direction of the public interest. Now they only bow down before money.”

Since returning home, I’ve had a number of friends mention the writer’s strike (some in high-pitched tones) as part of their news-I’ve-missed gazettes. Keeping one’s self entertained seems to be a lost art. And I won’t even get started on the quality of the shows they’re “missing”…
