One of my StumblePals is mourning her mother, who passed away today after a long illness. At the risk of treading into sentimental glurge territory, I’m posting this Shaw quote. The last line, to me, seems to sum up the aftermath of a drawn-out death:
It is a curious sensation: the sort of pain that goes mercifully beyond our powers of feeling. When your heart is broken, your boats are burned: nothing matters any more. It is the end of happiness and the beginning of peace.
