I’m late in commenting on this story, but I hope it’ll be the last nail in the coffin of my electoral commentary – I want to look forward to the Obama administration, and put McCain/Palin behind me.

A final word, then, on the stupidity of “Maverick” McCain, whose choice of an unaccomplished, inexperienced redneck for VP was a cynical reaction to the success of Hilary Clinton and freshness of Barack Obama during the primaries. It wasn’t until I noticed this article that I realised what an opportunity McCain passed up: Condoleezza Rice is an intelligent, educated and highly experienced Southern black woman with Republican credentials. Were it not for the taint of the Bush administration, she would’ve been a slam-dunk candidate. I’m not complaining about the outcome, though – after eight years with Rice’s buddy, there, I’m going to enjoy seeing the GOP on the sidelines for a while.

An emotional Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice reveled Wednesday in Barack Obama’s election, calling it an “extraordinary step forward” for the United States.

A child of the segregated deep South who became the highest-ranking African-American woman ever in American government and was once considered a potential Republican presidential nominee, Rice called the Democratic president-elect inspirational and said his victory was proof of America’s promise.
