Bomb Harvest – Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I stumbled across this documentary tonight, and wound up watching the entire thing from the very edge of my seat. It’s “face” is a very personal Australian ex-soldier who works in Laos, training crews on dismantling the unexploded ordinance that has littered the country since the Vietnam War. (I found it both puzzling and infuriating that the people working to clear the country of ordinance are those upon whom it was dropped.) Despite the war having ended over 30 years ago, citizens – particularly children – are still being killed by these bombs, many due to the impoverished population’s efforts to “harvest” the bombs for scrap metal.

There are some gruesome photos of what happens to these unfortunates, but it should be required viewing for anyone who contemplates waging war. In fact, why not make that a new rule? Anyone who advocates dropping any new bombs must first be made to singlehandedly dismantle an old one.
