James Hunter

A new friend and I have been bonding over music – his, specifically, as he’s got a huge selection of vinyl and some truly quality taste. He introduced me to James Hunter the other week, and I was immediately taken with it: I love 1950s soul. Imagine my surprise, then, when friend informs me that he has pictures from a recent concert. Hunter must be in his 90s, I assume. Imagine my further surprise when the forwarded pics of James Hunter reveal a white man in his 40s. Mind blown. And the surprises continue: When I decided to blog about him, I found a link to my current fave song, and – WTF? – James Hunter is English?! (There’s gray matter all over my walls, here.)

Regardless of this last, unfortunate and uncontrollable personality flaw (and belated St. Andrew’s Day, BTW), please take a listen to this track, which is absolutely one of the loveliest soul tracks 1950s black America didn’t produce.
