Pides

Out for lunch with friends yesterday on the Danforth – one of multicultural Toronto’s most multicultural main drags.  We passed or stopped in at French pastry shops, Greek bakeries, Korean BBQs, and Ethiopian restaurants before our stomachs finally growled at us to pick a spot and eat.  Luckily, two of my friends recently travelled to Turkey, and they suggested we stop at a place that sold Pides.  No doubt these will be referred to as “Turkish pizza”, but that’s too facile: They’re super-thin, crunchy dough bases with delicious, simple toppings, and entirely a class unto themselves.  (I also can’t remember squeezing lemon over a pizza to such good effect.)  If you have a local Turkish eatery, it’s worth a look-in if you’ve never tried them.
