Adam Yauch, aka MCA of the Beastie Boys, has died. Grieving commentators on the AV Club’s news report pointed to this amazing video for Shadrack as a memorial. The fact that a screechy white-boy rap band could conceive of a video so unusual and artistic should’ve been a good indication than there was a lot going on beneath the group’s surface. I was only a casual listener, but appreciated the turns Yauch’s public life took. Activism, repentance and soul-searching didn’t seem to be on the cards for him when I heard my first illicit Beasties cassette at age 11 in the back of a school bus. Budu Saranai, Adam.
