Creative ads on Conveyor Belts – DesignSwan.com

http://www.designswan.com/archives/creative-ads-on-conveyor-belts.html The checkout line and the baggage carousel are two places that always need cheering up, so I’m disappointed to note that I’ve never seen any such ad campaigns.

YTMND – I’m no kin to the monkey&44; no no no

http://intelligentdesign.ytmnd.com/ I disagree with everything in this song, as well as the mindset behind it, but I’m not so closeminded not to have noticed how gosh darned cute it is! Those Christians know how to make a swingin’ little piece of propaganda.

http://www.cbc.ca/hottype/host/index.html Attempts to watch CBC Sunday Edition are failing due to Evan Solomon’s distractingly perfect teeth. (As if he wasn’t distracting enough originally.)

http://listverse.com/literature/top-15-great-alcoholic-writers/ A list of 15 great, influential, and talented (not necessarily simultaneously applicable) writers who had a battle with the bottle. LifeRemix | Great writing about great lives

http://liferemix.net/ This is a handy little website that collates feeds from some of the web’s best productivity/life-hack blogs. Here’s an online edition of Baldassare Castiglione’s Book of the Courtier, as translated by Thomas Hoby. I was lucky enough to have spent the better part of my second year at Uni on a research project, preparing an annotated version of Hoby’s diary. Hoby was one of the […]

http://www.freewebs.com/truthaboutpa/somebooks.htm This site purports to be a kind of sting on an unscrupulous publishing company, but the electronic vigilante-ism doesn’t amuse me half as much as the fake manuscripts they’ve submitted: “You’re a beautiful friend,” Yvonne sighed. “But what Roberto and I share are more beautifully beautiful than our commonly beautiful friendship.” Callie rubbed her […]

Wired 14.11: Very Short Stories

http://www.wired.com/wired/archive/14.11/sixwords.html Reminds me a lot of the 50-word stories I mentioned the other month. I love that so much can be said with so little. Computer, did we bring batteries? Computer? – Eileen Gunn Automobile warranty expires. So does engine. – Stan Lee Machine. Unexpectedly, I’d invented a time – Alan Moore

The Official Website of Lindsey Davis: The Silver Pigs

http://www.lindseydavis.co.uk/silverpigs.htm I picked up a Falco book yesterday, 15 years after it was first recommended to me. Not a bad read; much like a slightly more adult (theme-wise, not writing-wise) Harry Potter, but set within the grimy streets of ancient Rome, rather than in a magic-filled castle. The protagonist is one of the more endearing […]
