Sex and the City – Movie Trailers – iTunes

http://www.apple.com/trailers/newline/sexandthecity/ WHY? Why, why, why, why, why? Do we really need another two hour vehicle for female stereotypes, product placement, and the fashion-and-Cosmos prattle that passes for conversation amongst the gold-digging, game-playing ditzes whose only dreams are of full closets and someone else’s astronomical credit limit? The bimbo hordes who will line up for this […]

Cloverfield – Movies – Review – New York Times

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/01/18/movies/18clov.html I’m learning to like Manohla Dargis, the relatively new NYTimes film reviewer. This Cloverfield* review may cinch it – it’s like A.O. Scott on bitchy pills. For a brief, hopeful moment, I thought the filmmakers might be making a point about how the contemporary compulsion to record the world has dulled us to actual […]

The Jane Austen Book Club (2007) – IMDb

http://imdb.com/title/tt0866437/ The Jane Austen Book Club: An excellent example of why “chick-flicks” is used as a pejorative. I tend to do this once every couple of months, and an inadvertent effect of watching them all en masse is that themes start to emerge. One memorable session saw something […]

http://www.apple.com/trailers/wb/10000bc/trailer1/ It was a time when man and beast were untamed and the mighty mammoth roamed the earth. OK, sounds interesting. I’ll read on: A time when ideas and beliefs were born that forever shaped mankind. Hmm. Not sure about that bit, with exceptions being made for the invention of fire or spears. 10,000 B.C. […]

Smokin&x2019; Aces – Movie Trailers – iTunes

http://www.apple.com/trailers/universal/smokinaces/hd/ Violence for the sake of violence is a cinematic pet peeve of mine. Violence for the sake of fun is one of the banes of my existence. Movies like this turn my stomach.

Movie Reviews, Showtimes and Trailers – Movies – New York Times – The New York Times

http://movies2.nytimes.com/2006/05/17/movies/17cnd-code.html The thumbs-up is for the review, not the movie (and certainly not the horrific excuse for a book – Dan Brown, I want those three hours of my life back!) Those of you who know me would expect this, of course, as I harbour a big, nerdy crush on Times movie critic A.O. Scott. […]
