The NY Times Obituaries section offers a neat feature; each month they dredge up some of the archived obits for famous types who died that month. It’s quite an experience to note the different styles suiting the different eras in which they were written, and for a history nut like myself, very useful to have a person’s influence and importance spelled out in full. This month, you can read obituaries for Robert E. Lee, Orson Welles, Leonard Bernstein, Harry Houdini, Indira Gandhi, Thomas Edison and others.
