From the learn-something-new-every-day files, I earlier made mention of the General who avoided death-by-fake-coal; that was the colourful Benjamin F. “Beast” or “Spoons” Butler. His brief Wikipedia entry speaks to a suitably colourful family tree: Grandfather to scientist Adelbert Ames II (inventor of the Ames Room that used to give me headaches at the Science Centre) and ancestor of the American wit George Plimpton. I can now see his very distinctive eyes reflected in both men’s features. Strong genes are as strong genes do 🙂
