Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip (TV Series 2006&2007) – IMDb

We’re only two episodes in, so there’s lots of opportunity for it to head South, but for the moment, Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip is blowing my mind. It’s written by the always-reliable Aaron Sorkin, whose previous shows The West Wing (which did go South) and Sports Night (which didn’t) are among my favourite TV shows ever. The premise of this effort is that a famous writer/producer team comes back to rescue their old, failing Saturday Night Live-inspired comedy show. Feeling like a combo of both in situation (Sports Night) and mood (West Wing), I’m pleased thus far with the writing and intent. It stars Matthew Perry – my favourite of a bad bunch of Friends – and Bradley Whitford, who was largely responsible for my love of the early West Wing, so there’s no slouches in the acting, either. I can’t wait to see where this goes!
