An unadventurous year for mainstream jazz
If the redundancy of “unadventurous” and “mainstream” wasn’t enough to set you laughing, the tone of disappointment should. Lowest common denominators rarely break new frontiers. Mainstream jazz ranks only a short step above Muzak in my books, though, to Muzak’s credit, at least it doesn’t come with jazz’s airy sniff of pretension.
