I found this at the library last week. It’s won some prizes for children’s books, and a glance will show you why. Presented almost cinematically, with small moments “animated” in successive pages of beautiful, pencilled drawings, it lends itself to whim purchases (or pickups, in my case). Sadly, though, while the concept and illustrations are top-notch, the story is crap. Should Brian Selznick’s next project be illustration only, I’m in.
