I’m no fan of Spike Lee, the movie director, but Spike Lee, the documentarian, is a force to be reckoned with. This is the second of his documentaries that I’ve watched, and it’s the second that has completely devastated me. Four Little Girls introduces us to the victims of the Birmingham church bombing via family interviews and photographs, but it also fills in the historical and political background by interviewing newsmen, lawyers, politicians, SCLC leaders, and some of the former students who took part in the protests leading up to the blast. Well worth a watch, whatever your opinion of Spike Lee.
