Hummer Nest 05

http://community-2.webtv.net/Velpics/HUM/ Some lucky webizen had a Hummingbird nest near their home. Pictures document the little hummers from eggs to fledglings, with a mind-blowing scale-comparison photo at the end showing the tiny size of these fantastic creatures.

Starlings

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WfkexGdmmQk Having lived in a starling-infested neighbourhood, the smell of this street is disgusting to contemplate, but I’ve never seen bird behaviour like this, so the site merits a thumbs-up. Thousands of birds bending a tree under their collective weight. Holy (bird) crap!

http://www.devilducky.com/media/46386/ More on David Attenborough later, as I’m busy listening to his Zoo Quest for a Dragon audiobook, but I must link to this fantastic video from his Life of Birds series. My sister’s the family bird-nerd (as you can see from her SU page, she has a Kinglet addiction), but I can appreciate the beauty and wonder of “wings that work.” With the symmetry and the flashes of colour, they’re like little flitting […]

kingletss favorite websites – StumbleUpon

http://kinglets.stumbleupon.com/ My sister finally joins the StumbleClan just as she’s leaving for 2 months in the field, working with her precious birds. I suppose we all have our addictions to feed; I’ll spend two months Stumbling, she’ll spend two months sniffing kinglets. To each his own.
