Apparently Dubya used 9/11/06 to justify his invasion of Iraq (which had nothing at all to do with 9/11/01,) and – finally – to hint at an exit strategy:
“America did not ask for this war, and every American wishes it were over. So do I,” Bush said. “But the war is not over, and it will not be over until either we or the extremists emerge victorious.”
There’s a significant change in tone – in the past, he was set to defend liberty to the death. Here, I thought that meant the death of the defender, not liberty…
