Favored by few, the St. Louis Cardinals used an unlikely cast of characters to win their first World Series in nearly a quarter century…
“I think we shocked the world,” Cardinals center fielder Jim Edmonds said. “It’s an unbelievable experience.”
I think the world – minus the US, Japan, and the Caribbean – would be quite shocked to discover there’s such a thing as a World Series at all. Americans always name their trinkets “World” so-and-so despite the fact that it’s only ever American teams that participate – Toronto’s poorly attended Blue Jays notwithstanding. Ironically, most of the World Series winning team would probably be shocked to discover that Japan and the Caribbean even exist.
