Central Lake Ontario Conservation Authority

http://www.cloca.com/con_areas/CAlyndeshores.php My parents brought me to Lynde Shores last week to recover from the adrenaline rush of the craft fair. There are a couple of hiking trails amidst the marshes, but the real attraction is the pack of fearless birds that nest in the park. A few minutes with an outstretched hand full of seeds […]

Paris Syndrome leaves Japanese tourists in shock – Travel – News – msnbc.com

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/15391010?GT1=8618 This is both incredibly sweet and incredibly sad: Around a dozen Japanese tourists a year need psychological treatment after visiting Paris as the reality of unfriendly locals and scruffy streets clashes with their expectations, a newspaper reported on Sunday. It’s patronising, I know, but I love that the Japanese are so sweet and innocent, […]

Pelee, Ontario – Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pelee_Island I’ll be away for a few days, visiting my bird nerd sis and her 256 human compatriots at the Southernmost populated point in Canada. That is, if I can get away from the computer with enough time to pack – if I miss the last ferry it’ll be a hell of a swim! **BUMPITY […]

Pilot Guides.com: TV Shows

http://www.pilotguides.com/tv_shows/index.php Three years ago, when I made the decision to shut off my TV, Lonely Planet was one of the shows whose absence I thought would most push me back to the couch. As it stands, my TV remained off, and I haven’t seen an episode since, but I still miss it. As a title, […]

Elfin Oak – Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elfin_Oak This definitely goes on my list of things to see in London – how delightful! The Elfin Oak is a 900-year-old tree stump in Kensington Gardens in London, carved and painted to look as though elves, gnomes and small animals are living in its bark.

Living and Working in France – French Visas and Work Permits

http://french.about.com/library/bl-liveworkinfrance.htm I’m planning a move to Europe for 2007. Unfortunately, this article confirms my fears, and hammers a very Kafkaesque nail in the coffin of my “work in France” hopes: Work permit – Receiving permission to work is also difficult. Theoretically, if you are hired by a French company, the company will do the paperwork […]

http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20060806/en_nm/arts_fringe_dc_1 Live theatre makes me nervous, and gimmicky art concepts never hold up, but this single hint makes me wish I was in Edinburgh with Fringe tickets in hand: This year “Hamlet” is being performed in a bouncy castle

Leisure / Business Travel Packing List – Travel Light (One Bag)!

http://www.onebag.com/ One of the WWW’s most enduring sites, and for good reason – OneBag (formerly, the Compleat Traveller) offers packing and ultra-light/compact product advice to travellers of all types. I learned the hard way that even a few extra ounces is enough to make carrying a backpack a painful experience, and it never hurts to […]
