One of the most high-profile divorce cases in showbusiness history turned bitterly acrimonious last week when legal papers were leaked.
The document, apparently prepared by Heather’s lawyers, contained allegations that Paul mistreated his wife during their tempestuous four-year marriage.
As I get older I’m realising that the Fab Four were far, far more than the sum of its parts should’ve totaled. I don’t have much to say about George, or Ringo, who went on rather opposite paths towards mysticism and hucksterism, respectively. John, for all his peace-love-dope attempts to change the world, sounds like a first-class jerk – did you ever notice how many of his Beatles songs are about emotionally mistreating people? But Macca is by far the worst of this sad bunch. A shill of the first order, an artiste (that’s a pejorative, by the way) and an attention whore par excellence. This sordid mess of a divorce seems to have caught the Beatles-loving public off-guard with its nastiness, but Paul himself saw it coming, 40 years ago:
