A man arrested on espionage charges is an elite Russian spy who had been collecting intelligence on Canada for more than a decade, Canadian authorities said in court documents released Tuesday.

They’re catching Russian spies here left, right and centre, though I’m not sure exactly what they’re investigating. If Russia seriously considers Canada a worthy target for their agents, it may point more towards the new KGB’s declining fortunes than Canada’s moving up in the world of geopolitical influence. Doubly so if the suspects were nabbed by CSIS or the Canada Border Services unit, who by reputation are only a step or two above the Keystone Cops on the competence scale.
